Frequently Asked Questions

Connection service dress: Casual. Jeans or khakis and collared shirts/nice blouses are most common. Traditional service dress: Traditional-casual Sunday dress. Button down shirt and slacks to khakis and golf shirts (men). Dress pants and blouse (women).

The Connection service is at 9:00 AM. The traditional worship service is at 11:00. Sunday School groups meet at 10:00. At certain times during the year, we worship together at special services and share a meal together afterwards.

Yes! Jesus said, “Let the children come to me.” Children learn about worship by participating with adults in worship. We know that means some extra noise at times, but that is expected. Kid’s Packs, for children ages 4-8, are available in the entrance area. Kid’s Packs provide creative items for kids to learn about God on their level. (Please return the bags after the service to be resupplied for the next Sunday.)

As you enter the Sanctuary main doors, the hall to the right leads to the nursery. The baby nursery is for children age birth to 2. The toddler nursery is for ages 2-5. A sign-in procedure is required so the caregivers will know any special needs of your child and how to contact you. Bethesda is a Safe Sanctuary church, requiring background checks and training for nursery workers.

You are invited to join the congregation in singing, praying, and hearing God’s Word. As a visitor you will not be “called out,” but we do ask you to sign the attendance pad at the pew along with our members. The information you share (address, phone number) will be used by the staff to provide information about our ministries.

In the United Methodist church we believe that the communion table is a time when Christ offers grace to any who desire it. You do not need to be a member of the church. The invitation to participate is given to those “who love Christ, who earnestly repent of their sin, and who seek to live in peace with one another.” Children are also welcome to receive the bread and juice. Holy Communion is provided the first Sunday of each month.

You are welcome to give. An offering is received at each service since giving to God is an act of worship expressing our trust, gratitude and devotion. The office does provide yearly contribution statements to regular givers and those who give electronically. Bethesda is a tithing church, giving at least a tenth (usually much more) of its income to missions and ministries beyond the local church.

GIVE ONLINE

At the 9:00 Connection Service “Greeters” are there not only to welcome you but to assist with any needs. At the 11:00 service Ushers provide the same assistance.

Jana Clack, our Director of Student Ministries would love to meet your children! See the children’s ministry and youth ministry pages, or our calendar for current events.

Membership in the church is based on a public profession of faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to serve Christ in communion with the congregation. You may express your desire to join our mission and ministries through becoming a member by 1) indicating so on the worship attendance sheet, 2) speaking to Rev. Batson or one of the staff members, or 3) emailing Rev. Batson.

Parking

You may park in any of the three lots surrounding our facilities. Enter from Piedmont Road to access the lot that has reserved Visitor and Handicap spaces. The lower lot at the back of the education building is farthest from the sanctuary.

Nursery

The nursery at Bethesda is available from 9:00 until 12:00 on Sundays and welcomes children ages 0-4 during the 9:00 and 11:00 services. During Sunday School, a nursery is provided for children ages 0-2. Children ages 3-4 are invited to join us in their Sunday School class. Feel free to drop your child off with our wonderful nursery volunteers so you may participate in Sunday School and in our worship service.

  • We have two nursery rooms located on the far right side of the narthex for babies (ages 0-2) and toddlers (ages 2-4).
  • Please write any specific instructions (food allergies, bottle time, potty training, etc) for your child on the large white board. Your willingness to do this during the check-in process will allow our volunteers to better serve you and your child.
  • Snacks are not provided in the nursery. However, feel free to send a snack with your child.
  • Visitors will be asked to fill out a short detailed form upon arrival to keep on file in the event we need to contact you while caring for your child.
  • All nursery volunteers are Safe Sanctuary certified and do an exceptional job loving and caring for the children!
