Frequently Asked Questions

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bethesda assembled a task force comprised of church leaders, staff and health care professionals to address the reopening of our church. With safety the primary focus, this team put together a plan that allows us to worship in person while adhering to guidelines set forth by our Bishop and Governor.

Instead of two services, we currently have an Outdoor Service at 9am every Sunday morning in our lower parking lot. Ushers will assist in socially distanced seating. Please bring a chair if you have one and even though it is safer outside than inside, we encourage you to wear a mask, especially moving from your car to where you will sit since there is a chance of coming closer to six feet with others. We will continue to have a live stream service at 10:30am on our Facebook page at http://facebook.com/bethesdaumcpowdersville .

As with most things amidst this situation, many of our programs are simply ‘on hold’. Several of our Sunday School classes and Bible Studies are meeting online. Please call the church office to get more information or see the Calendar section or current Newsletter under the Announcements tab.

During this time of Outdoor worship, dress is casual.

A socially distanced Outdoor Service is held in the lower parking lot at 9am.

Yes! Jesus said, “Let the children come to me.” Children learn about worship by participating with adults in worship. We know that means some extra noise at times, but that is expected.

Our Sprouts Nursery is temporarily closed.

You are invited to join the congregation in praying and hearing God’s Word.

In the United Methodist church we believe that the communion table is a time when Christ offers grace to any who desire it. You do not need to be a member of the church. The invitation to participate is given to those “who love Christ, who earnestly repent of their sin, and who seek to live in peace with one another.” Children are also welcome to receive the bread and juice.

You are welcome to give. An offering is received at each service since giving to God is an act of worship expressing our trust, gratitude and devotion. The office does provide yearly contribution statements to regular givers and those who give electronically. Bethesda is a tithing church, giving at least a tenth (usually much more) of its income to missions and ministries beyond the local church.

Ushers are there to help at the Outdoor Service.

Courtney Barnes, our Director of Children’s Ministries, and Seth Wright, our Director of Youth Ministries, would love to meet your children/youth! Membership in the church is based on a public profession of faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to serve Christ in communion with the congregation. You may express your desire to join our mission and ministries through becoming a member by 1) indicating so on the worship attendance sheet, 2) speaking to Rev. Batson or one of the staff members, or 3) emailing Rev. Batson.
