Staff Role Responsibilities
Role: Youth Ministry Director
Status: Part-Time (appx 3/8 full time equivalent)
Bethesda UMC is seeking a part-time Youth Ministry Director to work alongside a team of laity to support a vibrant ministry for middle and high school students in Powdersville, SC.
Primary Responsibilities
- Engage middle and high school students in youth ministry
- Engage laity and volunteers in youth ministry
- Alongside lay leaders in youth ministry, oversee the youth ministry’s activities, spiritual development of youth, planning and preparation, training of volunteers, and engaging youth in the life of the church
- Alongside lay leaders in youth ministry, collectively develop goals for youth ministry, seasonal and annual plans for youth ministry activities, and identify opportunities for lay engagement
- Ensure church policies are followed
- Conduct Safe Sanctuaries training for youth ministry volunteers and ensure compliance with Safe Sanctuaries
- Coordinate and collaborate with other church staff, including the Pastor and Children’s Ministry Director
- Train and empower laity to be engaged in youth ministry activities, programs, and leadership
Role Prerequisites
- Passion for youth and young people: specifically middle and high school age levels
- Solid understanding of United Methodist beliefs and social principles
- Experience in youth ministry (laity, professional, or both)
- Personal commitment to the Christian faith and the beliefs of the United Methodist Church
Reporting Structure
The Youth Ministry Director role is supervised on a day-to-day basis by the Pastor. The role is hired and evaluated by the Staff Parish Relations Committee, which also establishes compensation, benefits, and policies for all staff roles at BUMC.
This role is expected to work closely with the lay Youth Coordinator who will advise the Pastor and SPRC but is not the supervisor of this role nor has direct oversight of this role.
Expected Hours
Hours for this role will vary. However, success in this role requires availability on Sunday mornings, Sunday late afternoons/evenings, and on Wednesday nights based on current activities for youth ministry.
Generally, this role should average fifteen hours per week, which may flex seasonally based on the schedule for youth ministry activities.
